Question

Scenario 1: My current computer is being replaced. How do I move my IBM SPSS product/software to my new machine? (Authorized User)
Scenario 2: An employee left the company/project. I want to transfer the license to the new member of staff.

NOTE: This article describes Authorized User instruction.

If you wish to install and license an IBM SPSS product on a new computer, you need to follow two steps:

Install the software on the new computer

  • If you have downloaded your software installer and have it saved, you can move this from the old machine to the new. Please make sure to extract the files from the .zip file before beginning the install.
  • If you need to download the software visit Passport Advantage Online
  • Should you encounter any problems with the software download, a number of tutorials are available.

License the new software installation of the new computer

  • A valid Authorized User product authorization code for 1 user can be used to license two (2) up to four (4) product installations used by the same individual. 

    The license can NOT be shared with multiple users but, depending on your contract, can be used on different machines by the same user.

If you have an authorization code:

  1. Try to license the software on the new machine using the License Authorization Wizard.

  2. If you receive an error “You are not allowed to generate any more new licenses,” please refer to this article to take the right steps.  IBM SPSS now has the option to remove your old installation from your code in just 2 minutes, so you can license your new system with the same code.

  3. If you do not have an authorization code for the product, please review this technote.

Note: Copying/pasting the installed software folders/files from one host machine/computer to another will not result in a working version of the product.
